Australia | Adelaide, Great Ocean Road, Melbourne

Paskelbta: 16.11.2017

The last 11 days in Australia have begun and we were on our way from Sydney to Adelaide. Short flight, big temperature difference. Just 18° after a 25-30° week hurts a lot. 8-hour time difference. And believe it or not, in Sydney the Christmas decoration is already hanging around the airport in the middle/end of October.

Flight Sydney - Adelaide. 4 nights in an airbnb apartment in Adelaide. Sweet dog "Coe" enriches our stay, but can hardly see anything because of her endlessly long fur - amusing for us ;). We drank homemade Australian beer from the apartment owner - very delicious. Just for your information: an average good beer costs about 6-8€ here in the store... no wonder they brew their own beer there.

Arrived, we visited the extinct volcanoes and their massive crater lakes in a several-hour hike. We saw koalas, emus, huge lizards, kangaroos, echidnas and black parrots that looked at us suspiciously. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful nature...

We then went along the south coast (Great Ocean Road) towards Melbourne by rental car after 3 nights in Adelaide. We were greeted by magnificent coasts with gigantic cliffs, dreamy harbor landscapes and good fish restaurants. Only the constant packing and unpacking of our backpacks annoyed us a lot... only nature made up for the cruel pain of this duty again ;). Hilly lush green sheep pastures, thousands of cows, birds and other funny animals enriched the way.

On our way to Mount Gambier, we made a stopover in an approximately 130-year-old deserted Australian settlement that has been refurbished. There we also saw our second venomous snake on the trip, a brown snake - which is one of the most venomous snakes in the world, but quickly hid in the undergrowth.

We stayed in Melbourne for 3 nights. There is an incredibly large market "Queen Victoria Market" that we visited, a huge collection of different food cultures and almost at every corner and wall countless artistic graffiti - to what extent these were artistic or not, is left to each viewer. We saw crazy Melburnians walking along the street in confusing outfits and only realized some time later that it was a zombie walk. Zombies, bloody wounds and zombie after-party included.

Finally, they were beautiful and exploratory days in Melbourne, which had to end with a bang. We found out the day before the flight at about 23:00 that the flight the next day would not leave at 12:00 noon, but already at 6:30 - which meant that we had to get up at about 2:30, take a taxi to the airport at 3:00 and then check in for the international flight. We got up tired - left tired - flew away tired - but arrived super happy in New Zealand! THE COUNTRY OF ALL COUNTRIES!
