The epitome of calm

Paskelbta: 24.02.2023

New Zealand is the epitome of calm! So you just hit the road... nice and easy, sometimes without a plan. By the way, what day is it today?

Not having a plan is sometimes a plan. And Timo, if you're reading this, it works!!🙂

Timo is a good friend of mine who would probably go crazy with our travel style. He's one of those people who have a detailed plan well in advance. That's not really us. Of course, we have a rough plan too. But it will be developed, refined, and possibly spontaneously changed during the journey. Everything else just falls into place. When you're traveling with a campervan, you have so much flexibility. So you just stay wherever you like.

If you're lucky, the road is paved. Otherwise, it continues on the gravel road. It's not uncommon to drive for kilometers without encountering another car. And if one comes along, you just wave friendly. So you only have the road, the sea, and the landscape in front of you. Oh, and sheep, there are plenty of them! Apparently, there are more sheep than people in New Zealand! And in Auckland, there are as many people as on the entire South Island. So you can imagine that the South Island is not exactly bustling!

But then there's this incredibly beautiful calmness. No one mowing the lawn next to you when you just want to stroll on the terrace. No BMW honking behind you because they want to go faster (sorry Fabi!). And the best part, no stress at the checkout because the cashier packs everything into the shopping cart or bags. Isn't that cool? Keep cool, it's a big deal here.

We have now reached the southernmost point in New Zealand.

📍Bluff. Accompanied by many waterfalls, a beautiful plant world, and lots of seals. You can see them everywhere along the coast. Unfortunately, we have not seen any penguins yet. They are supposed to be here too.

Tomorrow we will continue towards Queenstown. And then Milford Sound is getting closer.

Other than that, we're doing well! Fortunately, we haven't experienced any of the storms in New Zealand. That's all happening on the North Island. We probably wouldn't even know about it if it weren't for our moms being the best "disaster warners."

And of course, we're always grateful for that, we love you!
