Today we took it easy again. We slept comfortably in Wuppertal and strolled through the city center there.
At around 3pm, we made our way to Solingen, or rather to the Solingen Youth Hostel, which is located a bit outside of Solingen on a hill near a castle.
By now, we have also noticed that most of our youth hostels are located on hills and are old castles or near them. But honestly, it wasn't intentional! We didn't look at it that closely when booking. And honestly, Solingen was the only youth hostel that bears the name Burg, so I expected that. But aside from the steep hill to reach the youth hostels, it's always beautiful up there.
Today's route was only about 20 kilometers long, but it took us 2 hours due to the incline. However, we didn't ride the entire way, as we got off the bike briefly in the forest to cross the Wupper river.
We followed the Wupper river from Wuppertal towards the south and our navigation wanted to take us across a bridge, but it was unfortunately closed due to construction work.
Fortunately, there were bike path signs that led us to a small ferry. Not a real ferry that sails over the water like a ship, but one that travels on thick steel cables in the air and is powered by pure muscle power.
That's how we slowly made our way across the river.
