Day 51: Banks Peninsula

Paskelbta: 15.10.2017

Our first night in our camper was quite cold. At night, it cools down to about 5 degrees. That's a big change right after Australia and we're glad to have a heater.

From the beginning, we are impressed by the friendliness of the people here. The owner of our campsite took a good half an hour to give us tips for the trip. Above all, we should always check the weather forecast to have the best possible route planning.

After getting a rough overview of our trip in the morning, we head towards Akaroa. Here we don't take the normal road, but the tourist road Summit Road along the volcano crater. We see wide fields, even more sheep and down to the bay. Our camper is great for living and sleeping, but this road shakes us up.

In Akaroa, we visit St. Patrick's Church, whose colorful stained glass windows were delivered from Stuttgart. Feeling at home at the other end of the world. Otherwise, it is a rather purist church. As Europeans, we are simply used to something different. After a walk through the French-influenced town, we drive as far as possible towards Lake Tekapo and spend the night for free at Mount Hutt. We like being able to camp spontaneously (CamperMate App 👍).
