Happy New Year!
I wish you all a happy and healthy new year!
Actually, I wanted to spend New Year's Eve with friends in London this year. But the travel conditions once again thwarted our plans. On the 31st, I had a cozy movie night and was able to watch the fireworks from my room at midnight. With a nice view of the Shard and a small part of the rest of the skyline.
On January 1st, I went on a trip to the Sky Garden with a friend. I had always wanted to go there and I was glad that I got tickets for that day. I can only tell you, it was really worth it.
The Sky Garden is located on the top floor of a skyscraper. It is also colloquially known as the Walkie Talkie because of its similar shape. But you may also know it as the skyscraper that melted cars with its glass facade.
Why Sky Garden? The entire top floor consists of an observation deck, where you can experience a panoramic view of London.
Outside, there is a long, narrow balcony under the open sky, which offers a view of the Thames and mainly the southern side of London. On the left is Canary Wharf, the Tower Bridge in the middle, the Shard in the center, and the London Eye on the far right.
When you go back inside the observation deck, you will understand why it is called the Sky Garden. Inside, there is a small restaurant as well as a botanical garden. With a variety of plants, a small green oasis has been created high above London.
In the middle is the botanical garden, and along the edge, you can still admire London from above through the glazed exterior wall while enjoying a park atmosphere.
The timing was perfect. Between half past three and half past four was just right at this time of year. This way, we could admire London in daylight and then in darkness.
It just looks so beautiful from above. I don't think I will ever get tired of it, and there is always something new to discover.
So I can only recommend this 'attraction.' If you want to visit the Sky Garden, you should plan a little longer in advance, as you have to book a ticket. They are free, but they are always booked out very quickly.
But it was definitely worth it, and I hope to visit the Sky Garden again soon.
