The last day of a wonderful journey is over. After driving 2,658 kilometers and spending 10 days on the North Island, we spent the last few hours in Auckland today. We even managed to get some sleep. ;-) So until 8:00am ... Then we set off again for three hours at around ten o'clock, through the city. We were able to leave the car in the hotel's underground car park for a small fee, which was really great. Finding a parking space in Auckland is not only extremely difficult, but also extremely expensive. After a small breakfast at the cafe around the corner, we walked to Albert Park. This is also a volcano and since the beginning of the week, new students from the University of Auckland have been meeting there to orient themselves and enroll in courses. That's why there was quite a lot going on there. But that's basically the case everywhere in the city. We walked a little bit around the park, past the university grounds. Honestly, today we didn't feel like walking long distances anymore. ;-) Before we left Auckland, I had to do a very important thing, at least buy a cookie from Mrs. Higgins. The most traditional New Zealand cookie is called Anzac. It simply tastes incredible!!!!! :-) After this important thing was done, we drove to the airport. We had a little over 3 hours flight from Auckland to Brisbane, a 14-hour flight from Brisbane to Dubai, and another 7-hour flight from Dubai to Hamburg. We have now arrived home and are still struggling a bit with jet lag. ;-)
Behind us are 21 days and a total of 5,782 kilometers full of beautiful impressions and experiences. Whether the sun was shining or it was raining, every second was worth it. New Zealand and the Kiwis are something very special. The diversity of nature and the friendly, cosmopolitan nature of the New Zealanders will remain in our memories forever. We hope you had fun reading and got an impression of the country and its people. Maybe we even inspired someone to take their own trip.
