The coast further upstream is the Laguna de Rocha. The lagoon is separated from the sea by a 10 meter beach. Therefore, the water in the lagoon is fresh water, but occasionally some salt water spills into the front part of the lagoon. As a result, many saltwater and freshwater birds and animals live here. The lagoon offers the optimal conditions for these animals as it is a maximum of 1 meter deep. To visit the lagoon, you have to drive along a 10 kilometer gravel path until you reach the parking lot. From here, you can walk to the lagoon. Camping was also allowed here, so we stayed there for one night. Three other German campers had also thought the same and stayed there, I would say more luxurious. During our exploration of the lagoon, we saw many flamingos, water birds, and animals. On the second day, we drove around the lagoon once and stayed on the other side, where there were thousands of fireflies, it was truly breathtaking.
