We love Cusco, we love Peru!

Paskelbta: 22.03.2017

After a long flight, or rather 3 flights, we are finally in South America in Peru. After a night near the airport in Lima, we continue on to Cusco. It is probably the most touristy but also the most beautiful city in the country. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, located at an altitude of 3400m and a starting point for the popular tours to Machu Picchu. When we arrive, we are already impressed, brick houses are everywhere on the hills. The old town is a dream. From our hotel, we have to walk for about 10 minutes, through a narrow street without a real sidewalk. Along the sides, there are small cafes, travel agencies, and shops. When we arrive at the main square, we are impressed by the beautiful churches. You can find buildings from the Spanish colonial or Inca period. You could just sit here forever and watch the people. Then we find the great restaurant Organika. In a small alley, here you can get organic food at great prices. The people are incredibly friendly and the food is great. You can even watch the preparation. As an appetizer, we try a typical Peruvian dish: ceviche - raw fish with lime juice and sweet potato cubes. Yes, we also thought that something like this might not taste good, but it was very tasty. Patrick finally gets his highly coveted beef fillet here, and I dare to try an alpaca steak with homemade gnocchi. (Even the zucchinis taste good to Patrick here) The restaurant was a top choice! After that, we go to the office of the travel agency, where we get our introduction for the Inca Trail. The next day we walk to the St. Peter's Market. Here, in addition to all kinds of cheap souvenirs (we bought a hat and headband made of alpaca wool for the hike), there is an abundance of food. Gigantic papayas, mangoes that you can smell from afar, and some fruits that we have never seen before. There are also meat, cheese, vegetables, nuts, and spices. At the end, there are still some stalls where you can get food, but we prefer to keep our distance and enjoy a freshly squeezed juice (the strawberries were even freshly bought from the neighbor at the vegetable stand). After that, we take a look at the old town with the Inca walls and the cathedrals. But then we have to rest for the following days!
