Puerto Madryn

Paskelbta: 04.09.2017

In the bays of the Valdes Peninsula, from May to December, Southern Right Whales can be seen. We wanted to see them. On the long journey from Puerto Iguazu to Puerto Madryn, we made a stop in Cordoba and Mendoza for a few days each.

In the hostel in Cordoba, we wait for our room while enjoying a cappuccino.

In the city, we bought a new mate cup as our previous one was leaking.

There were so many mate cups to choose from!

There are many churches and colonial buildings in Cordoba. For example, the Cathedral of Cordoba

and the Capuchin Church.

We had to try the wine from the region during our stay in Mendoza.

And once again, Chriss couldn't resist the smell of the bakery.

The next day, we took a trip to the highest mountain in America, the Aconcagua (6962 meters)

Puerto Madryn, the gateway to the Valdes Peninsula.

Upon arriving at the hostel, we immediately inquired about whale watching opportunities. We were only four streets away from the beach and the pier. During high tide, whales could already be seen here.

An absolute hotspot is El Doradillo Beach. This beach is about 17 km from the city. We rented bicycles as there is no bus going there. Here, we could observe the whales directly on the beach. It was incredible to see so many whales at once.

We went to Puerto Piramides to take a boat tour.

It was amazing to see these giant animals up close.

We were even lucky enough to see a rare albino whale calf. Only about 5% of white whales are born. After a year, their skin also darkens.
