Kanchanaburi

We will spend the next three days in Kanchanaburi. We want to visit the Death Railway and the Erawan Waterfalls. For this, we took a minivan and a public bus from Ayutthaya. One thing we noticed during the minivan ride was that we, as obvious tourists, were allowed to pay extra prices. This was also the case with the temples in Ayutthaya. Tourists are charged 50 Thai Baht (about €1.35) for admission.

The minivan ride as well as the subsequent ride on the public bus were quite alright and bearable thanks to the fans.

In Kanchanaburi, we had another different place to stay: a floating houseboat with very simple rooms and a communal bathroom in the open air. At first glance, everything looked great and there's a bit of a camping feeling. One really great experience was sleeping on the water. On second glance, however, the initial enthusiasm was a bit dampened. Spider webs, dirt, mold, insects, no internet, no air conditioning, and no hot water. Three nights seemed a bit too long...

The next day, I was greeted by bedbugs. Hello Cuties! :-)

In hindsight, it was the best thing that could have happened to us. We were allowed to change our room and this time we got a really nice room with our own bathroom, air conditioning, and most importantly, hot water. Yay!
