Arches and Canyonlands NP (USA West Road Trip Part 6)

Our hotel was located in Moab and from there we wanted to explore two national parks in two days: Arches and Canyonlands

In the Arches National Park we were greeted by a wind-eroded rock landscape that has taken on various forms:

On the first evening, we drove to the 'Window Section'. Many visitors climbed the rocks to the upper 'windows', which we also wanted to try. Once we got to the top, it was somehow higher than we initially thought...

Finally, the day was coming to an end and we could enjoy the sunset there.

The next morning we went to the Canyonlands National Park, but we only focused on the 'Island in the Sky' section. This is a walled mesa in the northern part of the park that rises like an island above the rugged landscape.

We drove along the edge of the mesa on the scenic road. At some points, we could look down on the impressive canyon landscape from a height of 308 meters.

Since our water supplies were almost depleted, we had to skip the hike around the 'Upheaval Domes' on foot and continue to the Arches National Park. There, we were able to refill our water bottles with filtered (and therefore good-tasting) water.

At noon, we wanted to hike to one of the most famous arches: the Delicate Arch. The ascent was exhausting in the midday heat, even though the trail was only 800m long and marked as 'easy'.

Later on, we took a longer hike to the 'Landscape Arch', which is one of the largest arches in the national park.

On the way, we encountered a snake, which we respectfully let pass.
