Of course, we have read about icebergs swimming past the coast and codfish willingly jumping onto the beach at high tide so that you only have to collect them... For the icebergs, we are probably already too late. The codfish actually exist. They can be compared to sprat or smelt, which we know from northern Germany. For this, we had chosen a small bay in Jackson's Cove and wanted to spend the night there. Freddy also felt comfortable and galloped like a little whirlwind through the hills (despite eagles and buzzards). We watched the fish when Scott came by. The people are so proud that someone visits their country - and we started talking. Of course, there was first interest in MANNI and then he explained the fish to us. In the end, he drove home, came back with his wife and his motorhome, and gave us a load of fish for dinner. We spent a nice evening with Linda and Scott. Although the Newfoundland dialect left us with a few question marks on our faces, it was very warm-hearted.
MANNI needs some servicing and so does the laundry. Our route goes via Grand Falls-Windsor to Twillingate. Here we do sightseeing and later find a nice campsite with a washing machine. Jörg tightens the fan belt, services the car, and the laundry enjoys itself in the washing machine, when Hellena arrives. A totally nice Swiss woman who said goodbye to her children and grandchildren in Switzerland and is now realizing her dream of traveling through Canada with a camper. We had a lot to talk about and had a great time.
There are countless places with magnificent views and raging seas where you can stay. In Newfoundland, a similar principle to the ancient Swedish Right of Public Access applies. You are allowed to do what you like.
Today, we are also staying at such a place. What is often difficult is the reception and thus the internet connection. Since I want to send the report and I have to call my twin sister Anke tomorrow because we have a birthday, we make sure to find a suitable place for that.
See you soon,
Anette, Jörg, and Freddy
