Pacific Crest Trail, Forester Pass

ຈັດພີມມາ: 10.06.2021

One day after climbing Mount Whitney, the spectacular journey continues. This is the most beautiful stage on the PCT so far. First, I hike through forests and grasslands, crossing small rivers along the way. Finally, I come to the crossing of Forester Pass, the highest pass on the entire trail. Since I reach it only around noon, I walk alone towards the big, gray granite wall. A narrow path leads steeply uphill, and I feel a bit uneasy. Am I the only one out here? When I reach the top, I am surprised to find a group of men who have made themselves comfortable at the pass. They have climbed up from the other side. I inquire about the conditions of the trail on the north side, which I have to descend. Immediately, I am asked where I come from. Germany. Grins in the group. Mike, one of the men, used to work in Germany as a missionary and speaks a few words of German with me. They offer me cheese and salami. When I am about to start the descent, they give me a big package of cheese and salami. Do I look that hungry? I thank them and say that this will be enough for the next two days. The descent is initially a bit slippery and unclear, as there is still some snow on this side. But with the trekking poles, it's no problem. Several meters lower, I later reach a beautiful campsite right by the rushing river.
