Early in the morning, Berni and I drove to Kandersteg in the Bulli. Since Röbi still had to work, Hofer's could only start their journey in the evening. We already took our spot and settled in comfortably at the Rendez-vous campsite. After a walk with a coffee break in the village, we mounted the awning on the Bulli at the campsite. We sat in the warm autumn sun and enjoyed the incredible mountain panorama around us. As soon as the sun disappeared behind the mountains, it started to get noticeably colder. Hofer's were stuck in traffic near Bern... 😏
We were sitting in the restaurant next to the campsite, keeping warm, when Röbi and Claudi arrived. Henry 🚌 made the long journey from Bülach to Kandersteg 💪😝! We chatted for a while, keeping warm, before retiring to our Bullis for the night... ✨
The night was very cold 😨! Just around 3°C. Röbi's enthusiasm was already dampened... But the weather was again fantastic today! Pure sunshine and no clouds ☀️! The campsite was still in the shade, but we had breakfast outside anyway.
Then we went up with the cable car. At the top, various paths lead to one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland. The area around Lake Oeschinen is part of the Unesco World Heritage Jungfrau and Aletsch. An impressive nature in autumn colors and a wonderfully clear lake in turquoise awaited us. Once again, we felt like we were in Canada... even though we were at home in Switzerland 😊! We took countless photos, Berni took an extra hike up, and we enjoyed a cool beer and radler at a mountain restaurant. Simply wonderful and very relaxing!
In the afternoon, we made our way back down. From the cable car, we had a great view of the campsite and Henry and Emily. Our Bullis added a nice touch of color 😝👍! After a raclette with many side dishes and some relaxation in the sun, we went back to the village. In the dark, we almost missed the country inn 'Ruedihus' at the end of Kandersteg 😳. To end this perfect day, we treated ourselves to a dessert...
We survived the second night better. Thanks to electric heating in one camper and sweaters in the other, we were better prepared for the cold...
On the way back through the Kandertal, we made a stop at the beautiful Blausee. Then the drive continued along Lake Thun, and up to the Schallenberg. At the summit, we said goodbye to Emmental with a meringue with ice cream and/or cream, and Röbi had a Coupe Triumph 😝.
It was a beautiful weekend in the Bernese Alps! Perfect autumn weather, impressive nature, great company, and delicious food! And Henry and Emily also didn't let us down...
