Day 6
May 20, 2021
The departure day has come. With a heavy heart, we leave the campsite in the morning and check out.
Through our research, we find out that all campsites were fully booked over the Pentecost weekend, and without a reservation, we are not allowed to stay in Schleswig-Holstein. Our gaze turns to the south, and so we quickly find a new destination: the Harz mountains.
We want to climb the Brocken mountain.
The journey begins, and soon we are crossing the Fehmarnsund Bridge. One last look at the Baltic Sea for a long time.
After about 4 hours of driving at a leisurely 110 km/h with cruise control, we reach our parking space for the night. The lumberjacks use this parking lot as an intermediate storage for the many thousands of spruce logs. The weather is warm and sunny, but we can't stay outside for long, as numerous unknown beetles are buzzing around in the air and landing everywhere. So we make ourselves comfortable in the camper, open the windows, pull down the mosquito nets, and read our books. Some time later, we cook ourselves something to eat and then decide to take a little walk afterwards. Done and done.
The site is a bit secluded from the road and also from the nearest town, so peace soon settles in. 3 meters from our window, we see a hare hopping leisurely along a path.
There is no internet at this site, so we have to take our book in hand and spend the evening reading.
Goodnight
