The art of cooking and chaos

Verëffentlecht: 26.09.2016

In this week, my e-book almost gave up the ghost, but without my involvement. Fortunately, it is still alive, otherwise I would not have known what to do. In school, there can be many longer breaks that you don't expect. It is not uncommon for us to come to a class and the teachers tell us that there is no English lesson, even though it is on our schedule. On other days, the class has sports or is free and we don't know what to do. Sometimes the teachers find something for us to work on, but sometimes they don't. On the days when it's so chaotic, I always catch myself being annoyed by this irregularity. I know we're not in Germany here, and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but for now, I'm still too German in a way... Often we are not informed in advance, but suddenly it means we're doing this today or going there. In some cases, of course, it may also be that we didn't understand the announcement in Spanish. Strangely enough, I had a low point this week when it came to that. I just didn't feel like learning Spanish anymore... I'm trying to motivate myself a little bit, but it's not that easy. The lessons at school are getting easier for us and this week we got to experience a kind of school celebration. Wednesday was World Peace Day, which was celebrated in the school by everyone. In the morning with the lower classes and in the afternoon with the upper ones. Almost every class came forward and performed something. We danced two songs with everyone: Aramsamam and the Duck Dance. Lunchtime with the older children also had the choir and the orchestra performing, in which we also participated. Anna and Dominik even had a solo, Dominik played the saxophone and Anna sang. The weather here changes constantly, and we got caught in the rain on the way back. Fortunately, we forgot our umbrella at home and after Anna stepped into a puddle and splashed me, we were both wet from head to toe in the end. It was particularly funny how we were looked at with confusion by all the people when we jumped through all the puddles in the middle of the street. We always cook on Saturdays and this time we wanted to make pasta with avocado pesto. We had already done that once and it worked out well. Only this time, I first confused nutmeg with pepper and then put too much lemon juice in it. The food turned out that everyone made something for themselves and one quickly ran to the trash can to spit it out. Then they even told us that it's good, except for the lemon juice... We also had the idea of selling the avocado pesto on the street, but unfortunately we didn't get around to it ;) Things that I enjoy the most here are, among other things, the shared meals and the guagua rides (which are the buses here) - definitely something that everyone should experience.
