I slept in on this day. My body was exhausted from the long hike. I had my breakfast (of course, nuts) and sat down with my two peers by the fjord. We ate and discussed our plans for the day. The other two told me that they were taking a rest day, and I thought it was a good idea. The relaxation made me realize that I had enough of hiking for now, and I decided to take the bus to Kristiansund the next day as well.
As I organized my luggage, I talked to Leo (part of the young couple) and we set off together with the plan to find more chanterelles. So we spent hours exploring the forest in the area, but we were not extremely successful. Eventually, the second part (Mia) joined us and our bowl started to fill up slowly. When we were satisfied with the harvest, we returned to the cabin and let the mushrooms dry in a jute bag above the stove after cleaning them.
After this activity, we wanted to take advantage of the cabin's offer to take one of the rowing boats on the fjord. We went to the boathouse and dragged the heavy wooden frame over logs placed for that purpose into the water. We rowed along the coast for a while and then wanted to paddle to the other side. Mia was not quite comfortable with this, so we left her at the shore of the cabin. Leo and I found a rhythm after a while and rowed the nutshell in time to a jetty. It's an interesting feeling not being able to see where you are steering, and docking requires a certain finesse. We got off the boat, secured it, and explored the landscape a bit. Then we got back into the classic Norwegian watercraft and rowed back.
After we all relaxed in the cabin for a while, we wanted to prepare our bounty. With a little pesto and oil, as well as my spice blend, we marinated the mushrooms and started a small fire by the fjord. There we grilled on sticks and a grate. The chanterelles tasted amazing, and we enjoyed the view of the landscape, so even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits.
The rest of the evening was calm, and we all went to sleep satisfied in the evening.
