Bali and its temple world

Verëffentlecht: 30.06.2016

The first days in Bali were finally a relaxation.

At the beginning we enjoyed the days in the hotel, explored the city of Denpasar a bit, and treated ourselves to a small wellness program before exploring the island.

It wasn't easy at first to convert the currency because 1 euro is 15000 rupiah. Communicating with the people there was also a bit difficult. Hardly anyone speaks English here and there are different rules. It took us a while to get used to it. The country itself is actually very beautiful. However, there is not yet a good infrastructure on Bali, so it is very dirty. The rubbish is simply burned at the roadside, which is why it smells a lot, especially in the city. The same goes for traffic. There is no traffic regulation or anything.
We spent a week with a host family in the countryside and still rented a scooter for the time being.
With this we visited sights such as the market in Ubud, the Tirtagangga Water Palace, the GitGit Waterfalls, the temple in Mengwi, and the Tanah Lot Water Temple.

However, the trip to the sights was always at least as impressive as the sights themselves. Along wide rice fields, over volcanoes, through markets or past a procession of people marching to a ceremony. There was a lot to capture. Small meals are offered at every street corner, which smell delicious as you drive by, monkeys line the road in some areas, and it is not uncommon for a whole family or just small children to race towards us on a scooter.

Thanks to our friendly host family, we learned a lot about the culture here and were treated to Balinese cuisine. Eating outside the family was always very exciting because everything was mostly in Indonesian, so we always ordered at random. ;) For the most part, it was very good and we learned a lot culinary.

Aside from the garbage and dirt, Bali is a very beautiful and nice island and was definitely an experience for us.
