Great South Norway Story

Published: 08.09.2019

Unexpectedly, our Swedish AirBnB host offered us a Norwegian cabin experience. We had initially planned to move further north, but since it was going to rain again, we gladly accepted the offer. So, we traded a bottle of aquavit for two nights in a remote mountain cabin. The AirBnB host showed us the way, and we made our way to the cabin without running water. The two of us were able to enjoy the peace and nature, heat the cabin with a wood stove, fetch water from the spring, cook porridge, and even make a campfire and observe the stars on the second evening. After a rainy first night, we set off on our first hike in brilliant sunshine. From the central lake, we went through marshy forests with a ground like a waterbed/sponge, and crossed rivers from one trickle to another, up to one of the adjacent mountain ridges to Harskallen, with a great view of the valley... and a good cold wind! Prior to that, we had already taken the time at the lake to familiarize ourselves with the technology, Lotti with the new camera and Karsi with the borrowed drone (Thanks, my handsome one! =)). Today, on Sunday, just before leaving, we couldn't resist taking a dip in the super clear lake with its muddy bottom. So more like dipping our upper body and swiftly getting out. Before continuing in the roof tent, we used the sun to organize the trunk again and find Gunther, who had been missing since Oslo somehow.

Back briefly to the original AirBnB accommodation to shower and then we headed north. We covered 300km, which takes considerably longer here than in Germany. The landscape fascinated us again and again, with its many waters and mountain ranges. With a bit of luck, we immediately found a nice sleeping spot near a lake, surrounded by mountains with the opportunity to make a fire. Lotti took care of noodles, broth, and tea, as Karsi has already applied for a care level in Germany with a torn splinter on the right and a cut on the left.

For the next day, the plan is: it starts with porridge, which is constantly evolving and now even contains homemade jam from grandmas, before heading to Mo I Rana for a glacier hike beyond the Arctic Circle. After that, somehow to the Lofoten Islands... the weather app doesn't look promising, but we'll see and report!
