Arriving at the airport, I took a taxi to the first hostel. Since I would only spend one night there, I chose one of the cheapest ones, not too far from the airport, and only had to pay 9€ for a night with breakfast. At the hostel, it was quite difficult for me to communicate with the staff, but I was warmly welcomed and understood roughly everything they wanted to tell me. Unfortunately, I had to wait another hour before I could check into my room. During this time, I sat in the courtyard where Chilean residents were playing guitar and singing in Spanish, definitely one of the most beautiful moments of the day. Afterwards, I was led to my room, a seven-bed room with three bunk beds. My bed was assigned to me even though none of the roommates had arrived yet. I had the lucky draw for the top mattress in the 3-story bunk bed. After I had put down my luggage, I inquired about the location of a bank and a supermarket, and where I could buy a SIM card. Then I set off on foot and found that I could only pay for the SIM card in cash, which I did not yet have, and the bank had unfortunately already closed when I arrived there. Unlike in Germany, you cannot withdraw money at any bank at any time here, as the area with the ATMs is also closed outside of opening hours.

Back at the hostel, I met the first two of my roommates, Flo and Dennis. Fortunately, they were German too and we got along well right away. So after 5 minutes of knowing each other, we went out to eat together. I ordered a Completo italiano on their recommendation, which was basically a hot dog with an abnormally amount of mayonnaise and avocado cream on top, but it tasted very good. We also spent the rest of the day together, drinking some Cristal and Escudo (Chilean beer) on the sun terrace of our hostel.

When we went to sleep later, the remaining part of our roommates had already arrived, but none of them spoke German anymore and I only had male roommates. However, we didn't talk much with the 'new' ones as they wanted to sleep and leave the hostel early the next day.
