Fitzgerald River National Park

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 27.09.2024

14.09 - 15.09

14.09 - On the way to Bremer Bay, our overnight destination, we stopped at Two People’s Bay. The beach was filled with seagrass, so we only took a short walk to stretch our legs. After lunch, we explored various beaches and viewpoints in Bremer Bay. At our last stop, Little Boat Harbor, we unpacked our wetsuits and snorkels and jumped into the water. Here, seagrass dominated, with a few small fish swimming around. Nonetheless, it was a lovely experience as the water was very clear.

15.09 - First, we headed to Fitzgerald River National Park to Point Ann. This location is known for the southern right whales, which come here to give birth in the bay. Initially, the conditions seemed unfavorable due to strong winds. So we embarked on a short loop trail and were pleased to spot a southern right whale mother and her calf, as well as humpback whales in the distance. After that, we continued through Hopetoun (no typo) from the other side into the national park. Before heading back into the park, we washed the car at a car wash – that was definitely needed. The Four Mile Beach campsite is somewhat remote, but beautifully located near the beach with a warm shower (unexpected). After dinner, a senior group recommended Mount Barren to us, which we climbed the next day. The ascent and the view took our breath away.
