Do. 7.7.: Gold mining in Barkerville

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 08.07.2022

Barkerville was founded in 1863 as a gold mining town. With its rich gold finds, it became the largest settlement north of San Francisco.

Today, more than 125 buildings have been restored. "Town residents" in historical costumes stroll through the streets, greeting and chatting with visitors. There are daily performances that showcase life back then.

Many residential houses are still authentically furnished, and you can shop in the stores like in the past, and craftsmen demonstrate their art. There are also theaters, hotels, saloons, and inns, of course. In Canada's oldest Chinatown, we learn more about Barkerville's Chinese residents.

Friederike absolutely wants to go gold panning and receives professional instruction for this. She proudly wears her yield on a chain now. Afterwards, we all pose for a photo in historical costumes as a lasting memory.

Back at Wells Hotel, we take a leap into the 1930s. Here, too, everything is stylishly adapted to the time back then.

In the evening, we stroll along the colorful houses of Wells. The former mining site is now a charming artist village with numerous listed buildings.
