Seattle - Day 1 in America

게시됨: 25.05.2018

The train journey and entry into America went without any major problems. There was only a little panic when I was asked at the border control if I had applied for ESTA. I hadn't, because I had read on the internet that it is not mandatory when entering by land. After some discussion with the border officer and filling out another form, luckily I was allowed to proceed. Phew, lucky me. This all happened still in Vancouver. On the train, my passport was checked again at the border and after a 10-minute break, the journey continued. Again, I was really lucky, as traveling by train is probably the most beautiful way to get from Vancouver to Seattle. Along the Pacific coast and through deserted landscapes, I had a fantastic view for four hours. That's how long the journey took. I arrived in Seattle around 10:30 PM and took the appropriate bus, with a self-inflicted detour, to my AirBnB room. Around 12:00 AM, it was lights out for me. The next morning, I walked to the city center quite early. The first thing I noticed was that Seattle is very hilly. So it was constantly going up and down hills. The walk in Seattle was quite sweaty. I really like the city itself. In the morning, it was still quite cloudy and a bit chilly. But in the afternoon, it cleared up and I had glorious sunshine and warm temperatures. In the morning, I saw the football stadium of the Seattle Seahawks and the baseball stadium of the Seattle Mariners from the outside. On the way to Pike Place Market, the oldest public market in the USA, I discovered some relics from home, see pictures :D Around noon, I arrived at the market. It was naturally bustling and you were pushed through the market. It had several floors. Fortunately, there wasn't so much hustle and bustle on the lower floors and I discovered some cool shops, including a magic shop and a store with lots of trading cards and coins. In the afternoon, I strolled along the waterfront, the ferry port of Seattle. In the evening, I walked to the Space Needle, a relatively famous observation tower. However, I didn't go up, it was simply too expensive for me and I don't need to see every city from a bird's-eye view :) Many stands were set up around the Space Needle. A long weekend is starting in America. Monday is a holiday and apparently, there is a big celebration happening there. Maybe I'll stop by there again tomorrow :)
