Hot Town, summer in the city...

Friday the 14th til Tuesday the 18th of February: I arrived in Bangkok after a 10 hour bus ride in the evening. And man, it's hot there! And so humid 🥵 I got to know a German traveler, Yvonne, and we went out to get to know our quarter and have something to eat. The red curry I chose was very nice but after a couple of spoons I realized, I had underestimated how spicy it was. I felt like I was burning from the inside 🔥. Couldn't finish it and needed a lof of coconut water. The next day I chilled until the afternoon, then the ladies (my room mates, Yvonne and a girl from Thailand, Yui) dresses up to go to the famous sky bar. It's known from the movie hangover 2. We took a boat and stopped at Wat Arun temple. The view from the bar was amazing and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset. Of course you have to order something and they don't have beer. So I had the most expensive cocktail of my life. As if that wasn't enough, they also put a service charge on top, so I had to pay around 40€ 😱 Well, as I generally don't drink so much, I was going to safe that money during the upcoming party nights. Next, we went to Khaosan Road, a party street just around the corner of our hostel. It is quite an experience to walk down there in the evening. Every bar and club tries to drown out the next one with extremely loud (and mostly horrible) music. And they have people trying to get you in there by shoving their menu in your face and screaming at you 😂 Yvonne went shopping, Yui and me went into a bar on the 3rd floor, overlooking the street and playing live music. It was really great and we had a fun evening. Yui taught me how to spot the lady boys, it's really hard sometimes 😅 The next day I got to know a Swedish traveler, Cassie, and after chatting until the afternoon we went to the Grand Palace, the official residence of the Thai King. Though he is hardly ever there, if you google it, you can find some interesting articles that he likes to party in Germany at the Bodensee 😁 You can't go into the palace showing your shoulders or legs, so I took a scarf and a blouse with me and created a very stylish outfit... NOT 😂 The buildings, statues and temples are marvelous, mostly decorated with colorful mosaics. In the evening we went to Khaosan Road again to have some street food and listened to some live music again. The next day a Chinese traveler, Jackie, joined us for a tuktuk tour. It was just too hot to walk around and my legs and ancles were very swollen, so I wanted to put them up. It was really nice seeing a bit more of the city then just our quarter. We stopped at different sight seeing spots like the Standing Buddha and Wat Saket, the Golden Mount Temple, from where you have a great view over the city. After getting back, Cassie and Jackie had to get ready to leave and I was planning on a chill evening, as I was going to fly out the next day. But I started chatting to some guys who went to another hostel to party and I joined them. The party was fun. There was a very old man at the hostel, who could hardly walk by himself, but that didn't stop him from dancing with us 😁 So sweet! What wasn't so sweet was that suddenly, after I came back from the toilet, my group had left 😑 So I walked back to my hostel, pretty pissed off, but then heard some great blues music coming out of a bar. I went in and there was a blues session going on. The band had a fantastic violin player who really rocked his solos. Evening saved! 😊 The next day I flew to Chiang Mai in the north, to get to Pai.
