With cornflakes in our stomachs, we got ready for a long drive to Chichén Iza. We drove for about 2:30h until we reached one of the 7 Mexican wonders.
The pyramid is the only one that is still fully built. It is huge and really impressive when you stand in front of it. There were other smaller ruins and a sacred cenote on the square, which we visited.
Since it was very very hot, we made our way to the largest open cenote. It was basically just a huge hole in the ground filled with turquoise water. We took a refreshing swim and admired the cave.
Afterwards, we set off on the long journey back, which was simply a straight road.
On the way, we passed through 3 small villages where the local Mayas lived. We stopped at the street food stands and got something cheap to eat there.
As visible in the picture, a whole chicken with sauce and tortillas.🙈
