Another travel day. Andy and I had bought bus tickets from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido at a special price of 460 Pesos, 23 Euros for a ten-hour journey. We said a heartfelt goodbye to our hostel roommates and had Tortas, Mexican sandwiches, for dinner.
The bus ride was uneventful, I slept well ... relatively. In the morning, as we approached the coast, the landscape and climate had changed. Instead of rocky mountains, our road was lined with palm trees, fields, and plantations. Lush greenery wherever you looked. Outside the bus: heat. It was only 9 AM and the sun was already scorching.
Puerto Escondido mainly offered sun and beach. So, we decided to spend the afternoon at the beach and enjoy the sun.
Shortly before sunset, we witnessed a special natural spectacle. Around 100 tourists gathered and paid 100 Pesos to carry newly hatched baby turtles from the beach to the sea. At the same time, about 20 seagulls gathered in the sky, only to be chased away by the tourists throwing sand at them. Nature filmmakers would have had a great time capturing this spectacle.
On the way back, we found an Italian restaurant and had pizza, oversized Italian Memelitas.
