Trip to Dublin

Hello my dears.

Actually, I wanted to write this yesterday but I was so exhausted that I couldn't do anything. So here's an update on the past few days.

Last Sunday morning, we received our negative corona test results that we had been eagerly waiting for. That was the signal for us to hit the road and see more of Dublin. So we set off at an ungodly hour (12:00, that's usually when I have breakfast) to go to the city center. When we arrived in the city, we first went to the gay bar, as Celine wanted, which we had only passed by before. Of course, just from the outside. After a round of bubble tea, which by the way tasted very delicious, we visited many other things. We were on the incredibly impressive O'Connell Street, where some of the most famous and important politicians in Irish history are lined up as statues in the middle. Thanks to my curiosity, inherited from my dad, for such things, I naturally read a lot about these people and even looked for and read Wikipedia entries like a nerd. Of course, we also visited the famous Temple Bar, which looks very fancy with all the flowers and I'm sure even more so at night. As in the previous days, I once again realized that despite some shabby corners, I really find Dublin beautiful. Many houses are made of red brick, with colorful doors in between, and street art on almost every corner, which makes the overall picture of Dublin very beautiful. I would have loved to visit some museums or hang out in a few pubs, but here as well, corona is ruining my plans. A great time to travel to another country (laughs). Anyway, you can still enjoy Guinness from a can and alone in the room.

On Monday, we checked out of our hostel to move in with our host family. With all our belongings, we schlepped ourselves to the bus stop and an hour later, with a few nerves less, we were near Phoenix Park. The area here is really cute and has a bit of a typical suburban feel. Our host family is really nice and welcomed us more warmly than we expected. Since Phoenix Park starts just down the road, we naturally wanted to check it out, but we quickly realized that it would be more complicated than planned. To enter the park, you have to pass through two walls. Unfortunately, the entrances to the first wall were blocked on our side, but that didn't stop us from simply climbing over it. So we walked in the first ring in some direction, hoping to find an entrance to the second wall. But the only interesting thing we could see through a gate was the elephants from the zoo on the other side. About half an hour later, a man drove past us in his car and blabbered something about us not being allowed to be here and where we came from and where we wanted to go. But he had such a strong Irish accent that we could hardly understand him and had to ask him four times what he had actually said. He must have felt really fooled. The end of the road was blocked off with construction fences due to road works, and the construction workers who were there were visibly not very pleased that they had to let us into the supposedly restricted area. XD

So our way back was a lot further around, but in the end it was a very funny and once again not quite legal trip.

I'll tell you more about it in my next post, which I hope will be finished tomorrow. Today, I've used up my energy level and I'm ready for bed.

In this sense... slán until tomorrow.
