Amazon Adventure - Day II

បោះពុម្ពផ្សាយ: 21.02.2019

Day two naturally started a bit later than scheduled - as always in Brazil ✌🏼

The jungle hike was a bit spoiled by heavy rain, but that's the risk during the rainy season ... unfortunately, most animals also retreat to their shelters. So, we only saw a few tarantulas that our guides (Gonzalo from Uruguay joined us) lured out of their caves.

The more exciting part came in the afternoon when we made our way to the camp where we were supposed to spend the night. Since we drank all the Cachaça the previous evening, we stopped by the floating non-supermarket again and took a pretty adventurous, overgrown path this time. That gave us the opportunity to see a variety of animals, especially eagles, kingfishers, macaws, and grasshoppers of all kinds.

Upon arriving at the camp, we had to build our "accommodation" first - consisting of a wooden structure, a tarp as a roof, and hammocks with mosquito nets, so that the mosquitoes wouldn't devour us completely at night. Our guides made a fire because dinner consisted of grilled chicken and rice. When traveling to Brazil, you should definitely bring plenty of time because everything takes longer here. I already noticed that at the airport when I ordered a coffee, but when you're really hungry and wait three hours for the chicken to be ready, it's a test of patience!! Of course, the plates were also made from leaves on site. Culinary wise, dinner was not a highlight, but the joy was even greater due to the long wait.

The real adventure began when you had to go to the bathroom because it was pitch dark after 7:30 pm. In the jungle, you get to know yourself in a completely new way 😬

Just before falling asleep, a supporting element of the construction gave way, which caused a bit of excitement among our guides, but the problem could be quickly solved (by Brazilian standards) with new branches.

If you're looking for peace and quiet, the jungle is definitely the wrong place - the whole night was filled with an incredible cacophony of sounds, which even increased at daybreak, but more about that in the next post 😊
