Fruit distillery, Ludwigslust and Kuhhorst

On the way to Berlin we found a place to stay overnight at the Schwechow fruit distillery.

After an extensive shopping trip in the store (they don't just sell liquor, but also a variety of other delicacies), we parked our motorhome with a view of apple trees.

We were amazed by the many tractors driving back and forth, but otherwise enjoyed the peace and quiet.

The next morning we continued to Ludwigslust, where we wanted to see the castle and the park.

There were already a few covered wagons here and later also several groups of men with loud music on the road: On Ascension Day, some of them maintained the tradition of an outing among men with lots of liquids and so we heard loud pop music in front of the castle.

Unfortunately, the 18th century baroque castle is currently being renovated, so not only does scaffolding block the view from the outside, but not all rooms inside are accessible either.

We could only see the magnificent golden hall through scaffolding through a window and in a photograph.

The audio guide told in detail about the travels of the former lord of the castle and his letters to his relatives.

After the tour of the interior, we looked at the castle park, which was unfortunately largely closed due to the danger of falling branches and trees.

In front of the Catholic church we encountered a muskrat that was happily nibbling on daisies in the grass.

We found an “Actionbound” tour (a kind of digital scavenger hunt on the smartphone) and tried to follow the route as best we could.

Some places were closed and at times we also ended up in closed areas because the barrier on the other side had already been removed.

It didn't even attract any attention because there were a lot of people walking around the park.

It is crossed by a 20 km long canal, along which you can stroll.

Afterwards we went to the classicist town church with a temple façade from the 18th century.

Particularly impressive was the painting and design of the altar area with a huge painting showing the announcement of Jesus' birth to the shepherds. The organ is located behind the front part of the painting.

We then spent the night in Kuhhorst on an organic farm that offers pitches through Landvergnügen.

We took another walk through the town.

We also passed a farm with goats that had a well-attended farm café.

Our parking space was right next to a fruit plantation and the free-range enclosure of the happy chickens that live here.

They lived with roosters, who we hoped would not crow too early in the morning…
