Monteverde

The dense Monteverde cloud forest is found in the higher regions of Costa Rica and the journey there is via a very bumpy, unpaved road. The last 30 kilometers of the drive to Santa Elena wind through the green forests. You can either take guided tours or go on your own. You can choose the length of the tour between 1.5-4.8km according to your preference. Even though you won't see as much on your own, it is also nice to be alone.

A walk through the jungle, partly on a good trail among the trees and partly on the 8 suspension bridges, from which you can see the different vegetation levels of the rainforest, is simply breathtaking and easily doable on your own.

Santa Elena is an active and sporty town with nice bars and restaurants.
