Today, after a sleepless night, we set off towards the northwest in the province of Alajuela. Due to the power outage, we had to sleep with the windows open, and one of us looks like a crumble cake, the mosquitoes had their fun. 😉
So goodbye to the Caribbean - but soon we'll be at the other sea.
About 240 km later, about 4.5 hours - 80 km/h is the maximum speed - thanks to a newly built road, we have already arrived in La Fortuna. The distance was previously estimated at around 6 hours. The landscape has changed a lot and so have the houses and restaurants. Only the warmth is still the same, no need for warmer clothes here ...
Our Casa Luna is located at the foot of Costa Rica's largest active volcano, Arenal. It is only half as high as Irazú, but its unusual peak is always in the clouds ... or so we thought ... it's actually rising steam.
After settling into our room, we headed to Hotel Baldi. There, from the reception, there is a whole hill with about 8 different pools & jacuzzis. All with temperatures ranging from 20 to 43 degrees Celsius, heated by the volcano's warmth. We probably have the first signs of webbed feet by now ... it was so relaxing. A little refreshment and back ... tired.
PS: Ulrike, the Marco Polo map needs urgent updating. 🤔
