Now we have already been in the port of la Grande Motte for the third or fourth day. After it was clear that we will spend a few days here, we will take the opportunity to visit the surrounding area. For this purpose, we have booked a trip to Aigues-Mortes and the Camargue for Monday.
Since we were so impressed by the rough sea on the route from Saint Marie to Grande Motte, we have decided to question the weather reports more. So yesterday, almost the same weather was forecasted as during the crossing here, so we took a look at the sea. And behold, what we saw would have been much more bearable and pleasant than what we experienced or remembered.
So we decided to go out today as well. The destination was the bay of Aigues-Mortes.
We didn't enter the port of Port Camargue, a district of Le Grau-du-Roi. This is a settlement of holiday apartments with a marina, designed for vacationers and boaters. Construction began in 1969 with the laying of the foundation stone for the marina basin.
We were more interested in the old town of Le Grau-du-Roi.
The access from the port to the Pont Tournat is unrestricted. However, the bridge only opens at certain times, so we had to turn around. Until then, the docking points of the local fishermen line the shore. Behind them and between the docking points, small local restaurants with terraces have settled. There is a lively atmosphere. From the promenade, narrow alleys branch off vertically, reminiscent of the atmosphere of St Marie de la Mer.
We return to our port and practice our docking maneuver, this time under slightly more difficult conditions. Result, Gustav is secured, whether I have earned the mooring beer remains to be seen, but it tasted good.
On Tuesday, we will set sail towards Sete. The weather forecast predicts strong winds in the western Gulf of Lion, so we will probably stay in Sete for a few days.
