Clearwater and Kamloops

After doing the laundry, we set off for Vancouver - with a few stops along the way. The weather has really shown its rough side and has been very changeable. However, that’s not necessarily bad because it gives a very special atmosphere to drive through the Rocky Mountains.

Actually, we wanted to stay overnight at Mount Robson, but unfortunately, all the campgrounds were closed, and the weather wasn’t exactly inviting to sleep outside in the tent.

In the Jasper blog, we told you about the eagle that flew away - now we found one and could admire it. Muriel suddenly shouted 'Stop - Eagle'... Sadly, I couldn’t stop as there was a truck right behind us. We had already talked about turning around, and suddenly - we saw two eagles again and then just stopped (on the highway).

The drive was quite long. After a good three hours of relatively wet and stormy driving, we finally arrived in Clearwater.

Since everything was closed at Mount Robson and Valemount, we just drove on, which ultimately was a good decision... Because at the campground, we could have a poorer experience anyway:

We were even greeted by the sun, and then we knew it was nice here :-D The next two days, we took it quite easy and chill, and just once went to the village to post something and strolled a bit around the lake.

And suddenly, there were eagles everywhere :-D

And also some other birds - I think it’s a heron, or Reto?

On the last day, we then tackled some waterfalls. We started with the Helmcken Fall. We were the only ones up there except for another car. It was about a 45-minute drive on a rural road. According to Google, I didn’t expect such a big waterfall. However, once we followed the trail behind and I slowly heard the roar, I realized it was something bigger.

The weather cleared up, and we had the beautiful blue sky back.

You can’t see it very well, but the waterfall made a real plunge over the centuries. Where the waterfall breaks off, it looks like it has been hollowed out at the back. And when you look at a tree nearby, you notice the scale - it was really huge.

And you could even have a free sniff at the waterfall.

I was so happy that I had to make a joyful leap (like a young deer).

Of course, on the way, we also saw:

hanging vertically on the tree and looking up, the guy

and funny little mushrooms.

Next, we checked out a little hobby waterfall, the Dawson Fall:

And finally, the Triple Decker Hamburg..... uh, Fall.

You can’t see it well, but it has three levels as it comes down. After the waterfall, we saw enough water flowing, and we made our way to the penultimate destination in Canada - Hope. For those who want to guess a little... The older ones among us (and here I count everyone above 30) have already seen the town in a Hollywood classic. A few hints: It’s about an American patriot, he was traveling alone, he encountered a horrible sheriff, was handsome (I believe) and had a black curly head of hair... I won’t say more.

Oh yes, in the title, it says 'Kamloops'. This was just a stop to shorten the drive a bit. The only campground that was open was in the middle of the industrial area, and the owner there was a bit spooky to us.. That’s why we drove there that evening, left the stores behind, got up in the morning, took the stores down again, and then headed off to Hope. We didn’t even take a picture.

Next Stop: Hope and Vancouver
