On the way to Wachtendonk, we passed by a Paulownia plantation. Never heard of it? Neither had we.

After 3.5 hours of rain, we decided not to camp in Wachtendonk but in 'Kempen'. There we stayed at a hotel, Michael got a new haircut, and we had time to explore the town.

Kempen: New haircut, super nice people

Kempen is definitely worth a visit in our opinion. When planning a visit, it should be on a day in the summer months and the first Wednesday of the month. That's when the Evening Market takes place in Kempen. A large bicycle parking lot is established in the square next to the church in the center. Park your bike, walk around the corner, and enjoy the market. Super.

Kempen: Bicycle parking for the Evening Market, it was already quite empty at late hours.

We had dinner at the Turkish Restaurant Ela, a genuine recommendation. Very delicious food and great service.

The next morning we finally went to Wachtendonk.

The old town area of Wachtendonk is completely under monument protection. Definitely visit if you're in the region.

In Wachtendonk, there is a self-service ferry that crosses the Niers/the Niers ditch. You can find videos about it in our blog.

Arrived in the Netherlands

The way there was fun to navigate. In the region, the junctions of the cycling routes are depicted like in network planning.

We still made it to Venlo. ;)
