Today was a special day for us, but also a long journey. We set off from Zion Park towards Las Vegas. We decided to leave the highway halfway and take the road along Lake Mead to reach the Hoover Dam. Unfortunately, the distances on the map were deceivingly huge, so we didn't see much of the lake... But the dam was all the more impressive. It was built from 1931-36 and sits right on the border between Arizona and Nevada. It is the 2nd highest dam in the world.
After the personal and RV check, we were allowed to pass and visit the structure.
After that, we continued our drive to Henderson to Shelli and Randell's place. Shelli is the sister of Marielle's host mother. They live in the neighborhood of Lake Las Vegas, right next to Celine Dion and Michael Jackson's brother. So, we had the second check of the day ahead of us. The place is strictly guarded and well secured. The two invited us to stay at their house during our Las Vegas stay. We were warmly welcomed to their huge house and Shelli spoiled us with culinary treats. The young team wanted to try out the pool with water slide right away. After the excellent Texan dinner, we set out to explore the area. The easiest way to do that is with a golf cartJ. Marielle, who visited Shelli at Christmas, raced through the expensive area with Markus, Christoph, and me. Everything is very well maintained. Beautiful green areas with waterfalls and 2 golf courses, palm trees, the lake, and the beautiful houses... simply wonderful! And all that in the middle of the desert. Down by the lake is a small town built in Mediterranean style. We quickly checked that out too before we fell into bed tired from the long day.
