ICJA (pronounced as a word) or fully 'ICJA Worldwide Volunteer Exchange e.V.' is the organization with which I will be traveling. Founded in 1949, ICJA emerged as part of Christian peace work. Originally, the four letters stood for 'International Christian Jouth Aexchange'. The organization has since distanced itself from this, so that the name now stands alone.
ICJA has been involved in practical peace work through international encounters and intercultural education for over 75 years, promoting social engagement. Together with around 40 partner organizations, ICJA is part, and even a founding member, of the international umbrella organization 'ICYE - Federation of National Committees in the International Cultural Youth Exchange'. Most partner organizations both send and host volunteers at the same time, working together equally based on defined goals.

ACVE - Aotearoa Cultural & Volunteer Exchange is one of the partner organizations belonging to ICJA and the large umbrella organization ICYE. And: it is my receiving organization. ACVE hosts over 50 volunteers annually and simultaneously sends young New Zealanders out into the world.
