Hi guys,
so that was our Australian Christmas. We had a wonderful Christmas for the last three days and now we can start work with a good feeling.
Our Christmas Eve was actually quite similar to what I described in the last blog post.
Our Christmas morning started with a hot chocolate in bed, which definitely brought a certain Christmas atmosphere with the morning rain.
It was raining nicely, but instead of complaining about the rain, as we all do in Germany on Christmas Eve, we were very happy about it because it really put us in the Christmas spirit. However, since our planned Christmas breakfast at the beach literally fell into the water, we spontaneously decided to have a nice breakfast out.
We went for a swim in the sea on Christmas Eve, as I did last year! Despite the rain, the water temperature was delightful.
Afterwards, we went to "Gold Coast". Here we checked into the "vovo- Gold Coast" hotel for the night. The hotel and especially our room were a dream come true. With a view over the entire city's skyline and the sea, we had a great view and the room itself left nothing to be desired, especially considering we had been living in a car for weeks!
After a surprisingly long time, we were able to freshen up and then we fell into the soft bed for a moment. Shortly after, we went to "Skypoint Gold Coast", where we had a unique view of "Surfers Paradise", the beach, and of course the city itself from a height of about 300m. We enjoyed the view with a glass of wine until it was time to go to a nearby steakhouse for dinner. Although nothing can beat grandma and grandpa's roast beef, we had a really perfect dinner here, which left nothing to be desired, except of course roast beef.
We spent the rest of Christmas Eve at the hotel, where there was a small gift exchange.
We both slept like logs that night and woke up well-rested for the hotel's breakfast buffet in the morning. There was a truly abundant selection that left nothing to be desired, so we indulged ourselves and then started our first Christmas Day. However, since Australians celebrate the first Christmas Day with their families, except for a few exceptions in the city center, all the shops were closed. So we decided to take it easy and drove to the campsite around noon. We spent the day watching movies, taking naps, and enjoying doing nothing. In the evening, we called our families. Even though we had a great Christmas together, Christmas is simply a family holiday and we missed our families. I'm looking forward to sitting under the Christmas tree with them next year! ππ
Yesterday, on December 26th, it was Boxing Day here in Australia. Just like last year in New Zealand, this is by far the biggest shopping day of the year, so we went to the city center too. Like almost everyone else on this day, we found some great deals and left the city feeling satisfied. We both really enjoyed "Gold Coast"!
After about 3 hours of driving inland, we have now arrived in "Stanthorpe". The city itself is quite nice, but the long journey definitely wasn't worth it. But that's not the point, the point is that we have a good job here!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!πβΊοΈ
