Today we took a trip to the rice terraces of Jatiluwih, which have been listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site since 2021.
With only 5 guests and a very dedicated guide who also spoke excellent English, we drove in a minivan to the north of the country. The journey took about 2 hours. We had already gained an impression of the country the day before, but now we were taking a different route and had further interesting impressions of this land. Above all, we passed through many small villages and were able to get an impression of them, at least as we drove by. It would have been even nicer if we could have stopped there and explored the villages. But there is simply no time for that on such a tour.
I was surprised to see that one place practically follows the other. I would have expected larger open spaces between the places, with rainforests, fields, or whatever, but at least at the beginning, the places are lined up like a string of pearls along the road.
It was only when we reached the mountains that the distances became a bit larger.
The rice terraces are truly a very lovely landscape. Everything is green as far as the eye can see. The harvest is not yet due, and just before the harvest, the rice turns yellow, similar to the grain in our country.
We took about a 40-minute walk through the terraces with our guide and enjoyed the scenery.
Afterwards, we had a small selection of typical dishes and fruits to taste in a restaurant, and then it was time to return.
We were able to gather many impressions during this trip. Unfortunately, taking photos from a moving car through the windows doesn't work so well, so most of the memories had to be stored in our minds instead of on the SD card. But a few pictures are still useful.
Unfortunately, during our short visit to Bali, we did not have the opportunity to explore on our own and stroll through a city or village. As mentioned yesterday, the city is simply too far from the port.
We set sail again at 5:00 pm - for the last time on this trip. We now have two more days at sea until Singapore.
In the evening, we had a singer as a guest who entertained us with her great voice - a mix of music styles. Very beautiful.
