We wanted to make the most of the last full day with the camper and the drive back towards Melbourne was over after a good two hours. Torquay, a town around 80km below Melbourne, is actually the starting point for the Great Ocean Road. Since you can surf well here, we chose the small town as the end point of our camper trip.
After the van was parked at the parking space, once again just a few meters from the beach, we went to the surf shop to rent a board. Chris tried the waves again, while Ines preferred the beach and the sun. Unfortunately, the backpacks had to be packed again in the evening because the camper had to be returned the following day.
During our evening walk to the beach we observed a few surfers and we noticed two who were quite far out and didn't move from the spot.
After a while they became aware that they needed help. Another man had also noticed this and had already made the emergency call, luckily the two of them were able to escape to the beach on their own almost 60 minutes later. Both were pretty exhausted and shocked, but luckily it turned out okay.
