We took the bus from the campsite, which was about 50 minutes outside, to the center of the city. With over 5 million inhabitants, Sydney is one of the largest cities in Australia and its most famous landmark, the Opera House, was our first destination to take part in a guided tour. Since we were early, there was still time for a walk through the botanical gardens, with a beautiful view of the Opera House, the Harbor Bridge and the city skyline.

The one-hour tour was super interesting and we learned a lot about the history of the opera house, where well-known stars have already performed.

We then walked past the harbor to a street food market, where we fortified ourselves with sandwiches and beer for the walk across the Harbor Bridge. On the other side of the city is the “Luna Park”, an amusement park that opened in 1935 and is still an attraction with rides for children. But the whole thing seemed rather scary and we took the ferry to Manly, where there is a beautiful city beach outside of Sydney.

Because of the weekend, all the kids and backpackers had gathered here and turned the place into the second Ballermann. It wasn't quite our cup of tea, so we went back to the campsite.

Some campers had organized a band there that played some classics and got the crowd (and us) dancing.
