Today we went on a hike to the Franz Josef Glacier. 🏔 It's really disheartening that over half of the ice and snow have already melted. ☀️❄️ About 60 years ago, the entire glacier was covered in snow. Today, it's only white around the top.
When we returned to the car after the hike, I was somehow totally exhausted from the past few days, and Jan had the great idea that we should drive to the Hot Pools, which were only 5 minutes away. It was like a small outdoor pool in the rainforest with three hot pools. 💦🌳🌿 It felt really good.
We continued on to Hokitika and were greeted by a friendly dog named Ruby. 🐕 She lives on the small farm where we are staying tonight in its "summer house". The farm boy proudly showed us the sheep and chickens, and even caught an eel from the pond. Jan went for a jog while I prepared potatoes with avocado. 🥔🥑 (our standard meal when we cook)
