From Dessau to Barby on Friday, April 19, 2019

Today we "slept in" until 8:00 a.m. After the delicious breakfast provided by our very nice innkeepers and many good suggestions, we set off for the Bauhaus and the Master Houses in Dessau around 9:30 a.m.

In the city information center, we learned that there would be a guided tour of the Bauhaus at 11:00 a.m., during which visitors can also see rooms that are otherwise inaccessible. However, since we had some time, we first went to the Master Houses and admired the simple but highly functional architecture of the houses. We arrived back at the Bauhaus at exactly 10:30 a.m. and wanted to lock our bikes in the bike garage. Unfortunately, the caretaker with the key was not present today, which meant unloading everything again and locking the luggage in lockers in the basement.

Fortunately, we are now skilled at this and we were on time for the start of the guided tour at the Bauhaus. We listened attentively to the explanations and were amazed by the visions and principles of the Bauhaus. Full of new impressions and inspiring thoughts, we set off towards Hamburg at 1:30 p.m.

We followed the recommendation of our host and cycled along the left bank of the Elbe through a nature reserve. Completely alone and in absolute silence, we passed by beautiful fields of yellow dandelions and through untouched forests. We again discovered numerous stork nests, flocks of sheep with many cute lambs, and beautiful sandy beaches along the Elbe.

In Aken, we took a lunch break with coffee and fries with currywurst, and then wanted to continue to Barby. It would have only been another 16 km, but we got lost for the first time and had to push our bikes through the forest for about 2 km today.

During this detour, we found a very beautiful sandy beach and Mathias couldn't resist the water and jumped in. I only dared to put my feet in the water and found it very cold.

But it was a very nice and peaceful place, and it was quiet and peaceful. Due to our detour, we even discovered the spot where the Saale river flows into the Elbe.

We both took our detour with humor and then found a small inn with a tavern in Ronney. The first Radler beer went down smoothly and the dinner was delicious and plentiful. Tomorrow, we want to ride at least until Magdeburg and maybe even a bit further.
