Dubai - glittering metropolis on the Gulf

In Dubai, we first took a city tour to get an overview of the city. It started near the 7-star hotel Burj Al Arab. If you have a transfer to/from the airport from the hotel, you can choose to be picked up by helicopter or Rolls Royce.

We then went to the Jumeirah Mosque, completely built from white stone.

After that, we visited the old district of Dubai, the Dubai Creeks. There, we crossed the sea arm with a wooden boat to visit one of the markets.

The sellers there have taken inspiration from German food advertisements and are loudly advertising their goods.

The next day, we took a trip to the 828-meter high Burj Khalifa, including a visit to the observation deck.

From above, it becomes clear how barren and dry the area really is.

The water shows at the foot of the Burj Khalifa are highly recommended and take place every half hour in the evening.

The shopping malls in Dubai are gigantic and offer a nice opportunity to cool off from the heat outside. Even the bus shelters are air-conditioned, and of course, all stations of the autonomous Dubai Metro are as well.

On the last day, we took a trip to Atlantis, The Palm hotel and then took the cable car back to the metro.

Travel period: February 2014

Accommodation: Four Points by Sheraton Dubai
I can only recommend the hotel. It has nice modern rooms, a rooftop pool, and a great breakfast.
