Should we do it or not? That was the question for Annemarie and me yesterday. It was about the Friesenbergscharte, another mountaineering highlight. This morning, we decided: weather sunny, absolutely good conditions. Yes, we are crossing the Friesenbergscharte. We took the cable car up part of the way, which made it easier for me as I had to descend further. Today, I'm staying at a different hut. After the Hintertux Glacier mountain station, we walked over boulder terrain and lots of scree to the Friesenberscharte. There is a small passage between the rocks, and thus we climbed the Tux main ridge. There is a magnificent panorama back over the Tux Alps and ahead towards the main Alpine ridge and Zillertal Alps. The descent was a bit of a thrill. It is one of the most demanding sections on the Munich to Venice route. It leads through the steep, crumbling south face. Steel ropes and footholds are used for safety.
Afterwards, we split up. Annemarie went to the Olperer Hut and I went to the Domenikushütte. Even on the way down, beautiful scenery with a view of the Schlegeis reservoir.
I am very grateful that I was not alone, for the weather, and of course that my body is still able to handle it.
