On March 18th stayed overnight near Kunming train station and left on March 18th. by train back to Laos. We arrived back in Vang Vieng around 5 p.m. It was so terribly hot in contrast to the cool China! We drove to our accommodation where we left our sharp objects. The owner greeted us with a big smile and gave us our things back. We stayed one night. But the next day we wanted to move on. Ivar has found accommodation that is a bit out of the way. The two weeks in China were exhausting because we wanted to see a lot in a short time. That's why we need a little peace and quiet to process. We spent 3 nights near Boua near Vientiane. The owner is an expatriate American named Hans (his father is an expatriate German), his Laotian wife and their 2 children. Hans even had a pink water buffalo that I was able to pet! We slept a lot, talked a bit, played with the dogs and, with the help of Hans, planned our further trip to Laos. On March 22nd we continued to Vientiane. This city is ok. Stinks in some places and doesn't have much to show for it. We only stayed one night and then on March 23rd. to take the bus for 6 hours to Thakhek. In Thakhek we are in nice accommodation in a hostel. It's very family-like! The city is very quiet. Not many travelers come here. But it is the starting point of “The Loop”. The Loop is a tour through central Laos that can be done in 4-5 days on a scooter. There are also many mudstone mountains near Thakhek. Many also come to climb. On March 24th. We actually wanted to go climbing and had already booked everything (but didn't pay anything). However, our time management was so bad that we couldn't have made it on time. Crap. Of course, that dampened our mood. But an ice cream and a few travel plans later, the mood was good again. Tomorrow we will set off for "The Loop". I'm looking forward to it!
