Day 5: To Franz and Sibilini

Perugia, you beauty! If you fall in love with a city just by passing through, imagine how it feels when you spend a few days in this gem. From here, it's just a hop to the city of Saint Francis of Assisi. A city that feels like half of it is made up of churches.

After paying our respects to Saint Francis, we hit the highway towards the mountains to the Monte Sibilini National Park. Through villages that are still heavily marked by the terrible earthquake of 2019. The mountain landscape of Monte Sibilini is a magical world. Almost like the Scottish Highlands. However, this idea was also shared by a few other Sunday excursionists.

So we retreat back to the valley to Ascoli Piceno. A town that is completely to our liking. A great old town, dreamy alleyways, hardly any tourists, and everywhere the scent of cheese, ham, and fried olives fills the air. The specialty in Ascoli.
