Before Kristina came, I spent another 2 days alone in Bangkok. I didn't see much because I wanted to explore everything together with Kristina. So I just took a round trip on the local bus, which was adventurous enough. No one knows exactly when and where the buses depart. So you simply stand on the street where you see a few others standing and hope that it somehow works out. When you see the right bus, just jump on the street, stop it, and get on board. How much do you have to pay for that? No idea. The bus driver didn't want my money and there are no ticket machines anyway. Maybe the bus is free? I don't know, but I definitely didn't pay anything.
If it's rush hour in Bangkok, I can tell you one thing, nothing moves!!! All roads are completely congested and you can't make any progress by car, including the bus. I decided to go back to the hostel by motorcycle taxi. An experience that makes you really glad to have survived:))). But thanks to zigzagging through the cars, we definitely made faster progress.
Unfortunately, I was caught by something that all backpackers dread in my hostel...bedbugs. Very disgusting and simply inconvenient, as you have to wash absolutely everything to make sure that the critters don't hide somewhere. After a long discussion with the hotel manager, where I expressed my huge anger, I was able to move out anyway, luckily, and move into the very luxurious hotel that Kristina and I had booked together. Fortunately, I got rid of the bugs pretty quickly.
Then the time had finally come - off to the airport to pick up my favorite neighbor. I was so excited if everything would go well, if she would find everything, and so on. After a short search, she came walking and it was such a great feeling to have someone there whom you know and like. After a round of cuddling, it was time for Kristina to embark on the Thai adventure.
First of all, I felt like a birthday child, because Kristina, Susi, my parents, and my Teffi had so many great things for me!!!! 10 packages of Haribo:)))) And Teffi sewed such a great backpack for me, which now has to endure a lot as my daily companion.
Since Kristina arrived very early in the morning, she had to overcome her jetlag and fill the day with action so that she wouldn't get tired. So I made a plan of what we could see.
First, we went to Wat Pho. A temple complex where, among other things, you can admire the famous reclining Buddha.
After strolling through the large complex for hours, we took Kristina's first tuk-tuk ride back to the hotel to jump into the pool for a cool-down. Then we went to the famous tourist street Khao San Road in the evening to eat a delicious Pad Thai and observe the madness there.
On the next day, we were invited to have a typical Thai lunch. Kan, a Thai person I know from NOMOS, as I was in constant contact with him and the company he works for, knew that I was in Thailand and spontaneously invited us.
He ordered a whole table full of delicious food and we tried things we had never eaten before. Everything was super delicious and we were completely full. Then came the moment when Kan couldn't resist watching us eat durian for the first time in our lives. Durian is the famous smelly fruit and it lives up to its name! Durians are often even banned in trains, buses, and hotels here because they smell so strong and disgusting. Well, you should try it at least once. Kristina should go first and I filmed everything because I was looking forward to her disgusted face:). But lo and behold, Kristina actually didn't find it that bad, she even ate another piece. But then it was my turn. A video would have been worth it! For me, it tasted exactly how it smells. Just really, really disgusting. But well, Kan and Kristina had their fun and I also tried it once;).
We sat together for a while and then took a walk through the city before returning to the hotel.
The next day was packed with sightseeing again. First, we went to the Grand Palace. This was also a huge temple complex that you should plan some time for to see everything. You should also be prepared for the fact that there are really crowds of people there. But you shouldn't let that bother you, because the complex is really beautiful and all the great decorations on the temples and pagodas are definitely worth it.
After the Grand Palace, we took a ferry to Wat Arun. It was also super beautiful to see, but unfortunately, parts of it were being restored and scaffolding was set up around the upper part. After Wat Arun, I had a little surprise for Kristina. Only in Asia can you find something like this - a unicorn café!
Everything was colorful and there were unicorns everywhere you looked. The food was colored in all rainbow colors and there were also unicorn costumes that you could put on. But see for yourself:).
After the café, we went back to the hotel to get dressed up for the famous Lebua Skybar. The Skybar where Hangover was filmed.
When you walk out of the door towards the Skybar, your mouth drops open. The view is simply wonderful and you can't get enough of it. It was funny that everyone's hair stood on end on the platform of the bar. There was some physical explanation for it, but I can't repeat it. In any case, we couldn't stop laughing because everyone looked so silly with their hair standing on end. We then treated ourselves to the most expensive cocktail of our lives, emptied all the snack bowls:), and enjoyed the breathtaking view for hours.
After that, we went on a short detour to Khao San Road and then back to the hotel to pack our bags.
Because the time in Bangkok was already over and we set off, for me back to the north, to Chiang Mai.
