Now that the lectures are over and we had a week off 'to study', I immediately embarked on my first China trip. I started in Guangzhou, which may not be the nicest location. The first day was a bit chaotic, as the Chinese hardly speak any English and rarely translate the Chinese characters. So it was already an adventure to get from A to B, because even if I found the right bus, I could hardly recognize at which stop I had to get off again. Nevertheless, I was able to see a few things and spent the first day wandering around Baiyun Hill. I got up there quite easily as I took the cable car and then marched up and down for 2-3 hours. In the evening, I was also in the Pedestrian Street where I ended up in McDonald's because I couldn't find anything better. Besides, I found the advertising so funny for a 'German Burger' with two sausages and mustard sauce :D But it wasn't that great.
The next day was a bit more coordinated because I had downloaded an offline map that actually worked and it was very helpful to find my way around the city. There I could once again visit a temple, found a cathedral, and went to Shamian Island where there are historical colonial-style buildings. Then I went to some square whose name I forgot with all the skyscrapers and a view of the Canton Tower. After that, I continued by train to Guilin ;)
