After a two-hour flight, we arrived yesterday in the land of the thousand islands - Hello Indonesia. We were warmly welcomed at the airport by our tour guide and driver. The journey across Indonesia took us to Wonosobo on the first day. There we visited the Dieng Plateau this morning, which is located at an altitude of 2000 meters. Under this plateu, there are still volcanic activities visible in the form of sulfur springs. On the plateu, there are some of the oldest Hindu temples in the world.
The sulfur activities also create beautiful natural spectacles, such as a bright green lake.
After lunch, we visited the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia - Borobudur. The complex was built between 700 and 800 AD. After the volcanic eruption in 1006, the temple had to be abandoned hastily. The rediscovery did not take place until 1814. The temple consists of 9 floors. The reliefs depicted on it reflect the teachings of Buddhism.
At the end of the day, we were treated to a truly exceptional coffee - Luwak Coffee. ☕ The coffee cherries used for it are eaten by civet cats (luwaks) and then excreted. It may sound disgusting, but the coffee tastes really great 😀 The enzymes make the coffee less bitter.
So far, we have found Indonesia to be a very friendly and helpful country. However, to our surprise, it is also very dirty everywhere - even at the temple sites. But this should not bother our trip any further and we are looking forward to more great impressions in the coming days.
