With a flight from Punta Arenas to Puerto Montt and a short bus ride, I now go to the middle of the country (or to the small south) to Puerto Varas. Fantastic weather welcomes me, it's wonderfully warm and for the next three days I can call a cozy, beautiful hostel my home. The city itself impresses me with a magnificent scenery: located directly on Lake Llanquihue (about one and a half times the size of Lake Constance), in the background the dominant Osorno volcano and with clear visibility also the Puntiagudo and Calbuco volcanoes. It's worth staying here for a few days.
On the first day, together with Annie and Michael, we take a public minibus directly to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. The first stop are the Petrohué Waterfalls, followed by a drive up to Lake Todos Los Santos, which extends into the Andes, and we have a lunch break by the lake. Then we go on a short hike along the Osorno volcano. Because the sky is clear, we have a fantastic view of the volcano and the lake, framed by blooming yellow gorse - a worthwhile and affordable excursion!
On the next day, we booked a day tour to Chiloé Island and visited the cities of Ancud, Dalcahue, and Castro. Unfortunately, this kind of trip is not recommended - too much is tried to be squeezed into one day, so that your stays are short and rushed, while the time on the bus is much longer. Nevertheless, here are some impressions from the day.
On my last day in Puerto Varas, I went to the center of the city (the hostel is located 20 minutes walk outside) and met Annie and Michael there again. Together we had a great time!
